Between sea and sky

The remote Cinque Terre has inspired artists and poets for centuries, and is little changed today, with mountains that dive to the sea, interspersed by tiny fishing villages. Cinque Terre comprises five small villages on the Ligurian coast. The villages were long isolated due to their location and landscape and were only reached by the outside world about 100 years ago, when the railway line was built. As a result, the characteristic Ligurian culture has been conserved. There are still few roads, so we'll let the train take the strain as we explore the five settlements of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Solo Traveller Comments

Groups include a significant number of single people who are able to enjoy the holiday with people who have similar interests. The prospect of travelling alone can be daunting but we find very quickly everyone has long forgotten this feeling and many new strong friendships are formed on our holidays. Although the average group size is 11 persons, dinner is taken in a group which can vary in size from 10 to 28 when there is another activity group sharing the hotel. This gives you the opportunity to get to know everyone in the group over the length of the holiday over a friendly relaxed dinner in the evenings.

There is NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENT on this holiday.

TOUR DETAILS

A TYPICAL ITINERARY

Arrival day

Our hotel, at Monterosso al Mare, is a short hop from Pisa airport. There's time to enjoy the view, swim or do some sketching.

Monterosso

Monterosso is famous for its beach, but its eye-catching feature is the Monterosso Giant, a 14m high sculpture of King Neptune jutting out from the cliff face.

Vernazza

This little picture-postcard fishing port is just perfect painted from on high. We look down on its small harbour with tiny beach, tightly hugged by church and town. The castle imposes its presence from above.

Corniglia

On top of a promontory, Corniglia is the most rural of the Cinque Terre, surrounded by vineyards and terraces, broadening both our artistic horizons and our palette.

Free day

A chance to relax or perhaps visit Portofino or Genoa by train – renowned for its Pasta al Pesto!

Manarola

Here in the oldest of the Cinque Terre towns, the cheerily painted, steeply terraced houses have long provided inspiration to artists. No doubt the result of the local Sciacchetra wine.

We leave early for Pisa airport.
