Meditations in a myriad of colours. Kerala will permit you to use every tube of colour you possess. Greens will be prominent but be prepared for the flashes of pink, gold and blue of both kingfishers and saris. We have deliberately scheduled time for you to both enjoy your painting and sometimes, perhaps, just sit in the shade and drift a little.

Groups include a significant number of single people who are able to enjoy the holiday with people who have similar interests. The prospect of travelling alone can be daunting but we find very quickly everyone has long forgotten this feeling and many new strong friendships are formed on our holidays. Although the average group size is 11 persons, dinner is taken in a group which can vary in size from 10 to 28 when there is another activity group sharing the hotel. This gives you the opportunity to get to know everyone in the group over the length of the holiday over a friendly relaxed dinner in the evenings.
There is a single supplement charge. However, you can indicate you are willing to share a twin but we cannot guarantee this possibility at the time of booking.

Days 1-4 - Backwaters
A four-night stay with three days spent capturing the varied and colourful waterside locations. One night spent on a houseboat.
Days 5-8 - Periyar Tiger Reserve
A four-night stay with one day sitting amidst cardamom, pepper, fenugreek and cinnamon in the spice gardens and another recording the local town and life along the river. A free day is included with one option being a trek in the Tiger Reserve.
Days 9-11 - The Western Ghats
A three-night stay in the hill-station of Munnar. At 1,500 metres, this vibrant small town is set amidst the lush, green tea gardens that contour the landscape.
Days 12-13 - Fort Cochin
A two-night stay on the ancient headland that separates The Backwaters from the Indian Ocean. This old European settlement and the many wonderful buildings remind us of its rich colonial past. A wonderful old synagogue, fantastical Chinese fishing nets and the burial place of Vasco de Gama are a few of the facinating features. Good shopping!
Day 14 - Departure day
A short transfer from our hotel to Cochin airport.
PAINTING TUTOR - MAGGIE O'BRIEN
Maggie began her working life in public relations before joining a local watercolour class, when her children were small. It wasn't long before she realised that painting was all she wanted to do. She financed her way through art college by teaching and now lives with her family in the far West of Cornwall, where she paints full time. Her atmospheric paintings of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles are shown in galleries in London and the South West. She works in all media and also loves drawing.
Maggie is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who uses demonstrations and one-to-one tuition to help her students gain confidence and develop as individuals. She is caring and encouraging and believes having fun is the key to creativity. "Painting is a gift to be shared. Teaching like-minded individuals has to be one of life's greatest pleasure - we all learn from each other."
Primary media: pastel, watercolour, oil, drawing and mixed media
